The International Cool Climate Wine Show

An annual wine show offering participants and sponsors the opportunity of being involved in a world class event.

Showcasing the best Cool Climate Wines, the event attracts winemakers, vineyard owners, sommeliers and wine enthusiasts from around the world.

The Red Hill Agricultural and Horticultural Society established the Cool Climate Wine Show in 2000 to help benchmark cool climate wines. Entries have increased from 373 in the first show to 650 in 2014.

The aims of the Wine Show

  • To raise the profile of cool climate wines.
  • To judge comparable wines in an open competition format.
  • To emphasise the styles predominantly produced from grapes grown in cool climates.
  • To highlight quality, aged wines from cool climates


a) Wines must be made from grapes grown either: South of latitude 37.5 degrees South, or North of latitude 37.5 degrees North or from a property in the Southern or Northern hemisphere which has an average January/July (whichever is applicable) temperature below 19 degrees Celsius, as confirmed by the nearest Bureau of Meterology sitre, or vineyard site is above 600m in altitude.

b) Wines must be from a commercial bottling run of a minimum of 450ltrs at the due time of delivery of competition entries. Inspections of stock on hand may be made. When stock on hand is below the minimum amount, sales history must be available.
